3 places to watch sunset in Santorini
Many people claim that sunset in Santorini is the most beautiful sunset in the world! We absolutely agree with them! It’s breathtaking, fabulous and one of the those things everybody must experience! But where to watch sunset in Santorini to get the best view and experience? In this post we would like to share some tips about spots where to watch this magnificent natural theater performance.
# 1 Sunset Cruise
Wow! There is no more accurate world to describe what you will see. While watching is spectacular. Since we were almost on the same level as the sun falling into the sea, it seems that the sun is unbelievably close to us. Few meters over the sea level the yellow hot sun which burns our skin through the day, starts to turn its color into orange. The saturation of its colors is gradually increasing till it reaches dark orange or even red.
The best is to find a comfy place on the boat and just sit and peacefully watch how the big orange ring of fire approximates the blue waves of the sea.
As the sun disappears in the sea, the boat turns and heads back to the port, but the memories stay for ever!
|Travel Tranquilo ADVISES: Santorini is a very windy island and in the evening, the wind usually bring some small clouds. This causes that the sun sometimes falls into these clouds and not to the sea, which sucks. Fortunately, we were lucky and saw the sunset in its whole beauty. However, better check the weather forecast, so that you are not disappointed later.|
# 2 Oia
Oia or Ia is certainly the most beautiful city in Santorini. Thanks to its picterosque narrow streats it for sure as well belong between the most maravelous places of entire world.
As soon as the rays of the setting sun start to turn the white walls of the city, you will understand, why is the sunset in Oia magical. The sky, sea as well as the typical white houses standing on the island around the sunset take on an apricot tint.
During the sunset, Oia turns into one of the most romantic city in the world. For that reason many couples get married in the evening in Oia.
The whole caldera of Oia gets crowded and that already 2 hours before the sunset. However, the best place to watch the sunset in Oia is from the ruins of castle of Oia. People sit and stand anywhere on its ruined walls. To get a good spot, it is important to come early, at least 2-3 hours before the sunset. Sometimes it is hard to keep the spot, because people are pushing a lot. Anyway, it’s definitely worth it! The moment when whole caldera claps to the sun which just finished its day trip is exciting!
# 3 Fira
Fira is the capital city of Santorini. As well as Oia, Fira is typified by white small houses and white churches with blue cupolas built on the caldera.
The narrow street of Fira are lined with everything that a tourist needs; from markets, souvenirs, clothes to delicious food and drinks offered in local restaurants and bars. Their terraces provide the best spots to watch the sunset in Fira. The sunset by itself is amazing, but it gets even better with a glass of refreshing Greek wine.
